Association of British Hujjaj (Pilgrims) UK expresses its extreme concern that a vast majority of British Pilgrims once again this year are suffering from extreme hardship and difficulties at the hands of unscrupulous and rogue Hajj/Umrah service providers.

These service providers are preying on vulnerable pilgrims including sick, elderly, and women; cheating and charging them at extortionate and unjustified prices for the Hajj packages. In view that many pilgrims are likely to have spent their life-savings to fulfil their desires and wishes to perform their religious obligation, such conduct by tour operators is not acceptable. Some of the Pilgrims have been left stranded and unfortunately will not be able to perform their Hajj this year.

Those operators who are on the Saudi Ministry of Hajj’s approved list are given a specific quota of Pilgrims to give visas. The registered tour and travel operators are not allowed to sell their Hajj quota stickers. However, most of these Hajj tour operators are selling their Hajj quota stickers in the black market to the unscrupulous and rogue tour and travel operators making a huge amount of money.

By selling these Hajj quota stickers to unscrupulous and rogue tour and travel operators, they are causing horrendous problems to the innocent prospective Hajj/Umrah Pilgrims. Because these rogue and unscrupulous tour and travel operators indulge in all sorts of illegal and immoral activities, they cause extreme hardship, difficulties, mental anguish, and financial exploitation to these vulnerable prospective Hajj/Umrah Pilgrims.

Therefore, The Association of British Hujjaj (Pilgrims) UK, in the letters sent to the Saudi Hajj Minister, Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed bin Hamza Asaad Al-Hajjar and HRH Prince Mohammed Bin Nawaf, Saudi Ambassador in London; urges the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to please adopt a zero tolerance policy and do a crack down on those who are responsible for this growing culture of deception and immoral practices in the Hajj & Umrah service provider industry. This will ensure the welfare and wellbeing of millions of pilgrims from around the world in order to allow them to perform their religious obligation in peace and harmony.
