KSA Urged to Review its Hajj Arrangements to Prevent Future Tragedies

The Association of British Hujjaj (Pilgrims) UK, a national Hajj/Umrah-specific organisation working for the welfare of Hajj/Umrah pilgrims, expresses its grave concern about the lack of awareness of health and safety precautions and appropriate educational training amongst Hajj/Umrah pilgrims which was one of the major factors of past Hajj disasters and the significant loss of innocent human lives.

The Association of British Hujjaj (Pilgrims) UK strongly urges the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to review the present Hajj/Umrah arrangement structure, with the help of Muslim scholars and experts, in detail to achieve its goal of ensuring the wellbeing of millions of pilgrims.

It is extremely important that all the attending pilgrims are trained and made aware of preventative measures of health and safety issues in their own countries before leaving for Hajj/Umrah. A Hajj/Umrah training course should be devised by the Kingdom about all aspects of performing Hajj/Umrah pilgrimage and should be made mandatory for all prospective Hajj/Umrah pilgrims. This training course must be undertaken before pilgrims are allowed to travel to perform pilgrimage.

A Hajj/Umrah designated satellite TV channel should be set up along with campaigns on social media outlets to promote a culture of awareness and knowledge amongst prospective pilgrims from around the world. Informed pilgrims will be able to safeguard their own wellbeing and help prevent any future Hajj tragedies. The Kingdom can also save on significant amount of resources which it is currently spending to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
